Hi! My name’s Honglan.
I’m a Viet-American SoCal native, a senior biochem & honors humanities major at Azusa Pacific, and all-around nerd. In the middle of a global pandemic, in the interest of being more present, I’ve started a blog.
I’ve wanted to start my own blog since late high school, about half-way through my junior year. I’m not entirely sure what’s stopped me over and over again for the past 4 years… My mind’s often a chaotic orchestra of things I’m just itching to put out into space.
A part of my hesitation came from fear of having nothing valuable or interesting to say–a fear of being another voice adding to white noise. I guess I’m also afraid of coming off as an expert in a given area when I’m really not. The idea of leading anyone astray by my potential naivety terrifies me.
That said, I have always valued hearing others’ experiences and thoughts–whether they’re raw or just a bit more worn by time.
I guess I’m finally deciding to extend the same grace to myself that I’ve so often granted to others.
Am I still gonna stick to other forms of self-expression? Oh heck yeah.
But, it’s so liberating knowing that alongside…
- singing and dancing in parking garages at night
- bicycling
- YouTube-surfing through sustainability, finance, science, minimalism, and otter/ferret videos (yup)
- driving with music blaring and the sunroof open
- photography
- face-time with Jesus and
- impromptu calls to my friends (God bless them, seriously)
I now also have blogging. Now maybe I’ll have somewhere to divert all those long Instagram posts I keep drafting and deleting at 3 AM in the morning. (:
Here’s to all the glitches and frustrations I’ll inevitably hit and troubleshoot from here on out lol.
Thanks for tagging along for the ride.

P. S. – If there’s ever a topic you’d like me to consider writing about, shoot for it! I’m down for ideas lol.
